About Us
We Are Not So Very Many, But We’re Loyal Through and Through
In 2006, by a chance meeting in a bar in the Whitchurch district of Cardiff, two individuals met and started a discussion on the subject of football and in particular the football team that they had an allegiance to. What made this encounter even more fateful was that neither of them was Scottish but had one precious thing in common, that they felt passionate about Glasgow Rangers. After a few kindred drinks, the discussion soon turned into the possibility of starting a Rangers supporters club in Cardiff. This had never been done before (as far as anyone is aware) and the seeds were sewn.
In due course, the cry for membership was sent out over the internet through well-known Glasgow Rangers forums and by word of mouth within the city. This had the effect of attracting the attention of various bears that had settled or were working and living in the Cardiff and surrounding area at the time. In due course it became quite apparent that there was enough interest to move forward with starting a club based in Cardiff and to rally the bears to the call.
The next thing was to establish a meeting place to enjoy our team and celebrate our culture in like-minded camaraderie, and so the search began for a bar that would be prepared to host the club, show live Rangers matches on TV and give the club a base. After some long searching, a bar was eventually found in the Cathase district of Cardiff, 'The End’, where the owner was found to be acceptant of the club and openly encouraged the members’ patronage. It was here that the club’s routes were very firmly put down and where a number of life long friendships were established. However, with a change in ownership it was decided that the club would seek an alternative venue and set about looking during the closed season and with the help of a club member it was not long before a new base was found. This new base was in the Birchgrove area of the city and this time, the club had managed to secure a small function suit for the purpose. ‘The New Inn’ Caerphilly Road, was ideal and provided a place where we could express ourselves freely and without contradiction. However over the seasons as new members joined we quickly realised that our small function suit was quickly filling up and we would have to seek alternative premises. Once again we were in search of the ideal base where we could watch our beloved team. Fortunately an opportunity presented itself that would offer us a large private function suite, capable to meet any future expansion the club will need, along with being close to the city centre for easy access for our members across South Wales. It is here at 'The Duke Of Clarence' in Canton that we now call home.
The club continues to go from strength to strength and can proudly boast membership from the four nations of Great Britain. We take great pleasure in welcoming guests from all over the country when either visiting the city or working in the area and in particular other Rangers supporters clubs when on tour.
Our club has been privileged to have among its ranks, members of the armed forces and in particular RAF personnel serving at St Athan and we are very proud of that fact. We hope those servicemen who have come and gone will remember us with the same fondness as we them, they will always remain a big part of the club and to those who are still to come, we extend a friendly hand and a warm welcome to our Rangers family in South Wales and indeed to all Ranger’s from where ever they come in the World.
We Are The People!
